I interrupt the stream of il2006 catch-up posts (which will continue for the next several days — lazy blogger!) to join the host of other bloggers (biblio & other) who have announced their love for Firefox 2.0. I just downloaded it today, on my Mac & my work PC and the experience has been brilliant so far. I have to admit that I was skeptical about many of the “features” listed in the release notes, mostly because I’ve been able to do many of those things in Firefox for months already (like one-click rss subscriptions right into Bloglines), thanks to some brilliant extensions. But when I read about the built-in spell checker, I knew I had to give it a go & I’m trilled that I did! If for no other reason than it now makes the clunky web interface for my work email a wee bit more tolerable. And even though Livelines was my favourite add-on for the longest time, the integrated RSS handler does make subscribing to feeds in Bloglines a couple of clicks easier.

So, all of this is to say that Firefox continues to rock! Go get it now. And tell all your friends.

Are Firefox and Safari “finding” your library’s RSS feed?* I realized the other day that neither browser was picking up ours, so I did some scouring around and found some really basic code you can include in your <head> tags to facilitate RSS auto-discovery. The code (and a short but good explanation) is here. If you’re publishing a feed, it’s a really good idea to make it as findable as possible!

*look for in the address bar in Firefox;
*look for in the address bar in Safari.
