[...] 2. McMaster University has launched their new Endeca-powered library catalogue (that’s right, catalogue). Browse to your heart’s content, narrow your search using the facets clearly laid out in the left-hand toolbar…format, subject, location…swoon. OPAC aficonados keeping score at home may recall that the North Carolina State University Libraries launched their own lovely Endeca-powered catalog (that’s right, catalog) back in January 2006.
Congratulations! I remember when MORRIS was introduced at McMaster and interviewing people about it for the school paper. Sure seems like a long time ago - I guess because it was.

Long overdue for a change; kudos for making it happen (and retiring the cutesy name).

Ooh, shiny. My librarian senses are tingling. :)

I really like the AJAXyness, but then I am attracted to cool pretty things. :) It could be annoying, esp. if a user doesn't make the connection between moving their mouse away and the little window disappearing, and thinks it's just disappearing randomly (I can just see that happening, with less-computer-literate users...)

But then - it does get rid of the annoyance of going to a catalogue record and then having to hit the Back button to get back to your results list. I like that a lot. :)

...I have doubts about the lightbox effect too. Maybe if it's subtle? Though even then it might be a bit much.

Congratulations! Your new catalog is a thing of beauty. Would be very interested to hear about the usability testing that you've done so far....
