school library 2.0

Kathy Kawasaki, a participant in my Blogs & RSS course last Fall, has set up a great blog for her school library, the York Mills Collegiate Institute, here in Toronto. Have a look. There’s a lot of cool stuff going on with this blog:

• Kathy reports that she’s had excellent support for the blog, from the administration, teachers, and students.
• Comments enabled! And they’re being used!
• Kathy has set up some excellent information pages on the blog (how to blog, RSS, and Podcasts) and reports that teachers are using these pages for more info.
• Varied and interesting content, from web 2.0 tools for collaboration, to class assignments, to quirky news, to school social events.
• Categories for each of the school departments.

[...] Am York Mills Collegiate Institute in Toronto gibt es einen Schulbibliotheksblog. Nicht nur die Hompage der Schulbibliothek ist hier der Einstieg für Schülerinnen und Schüler ins Netz, sondern das laufend aktuell gehaltene Blog. Ich finde das vollkommen zeitgemäß, aber das ist irgendwo da draußen, in Ländern in denen es feste Stellen für Personal in School Libraries gibt. [via blogwithoutalibrary.net] Die School Library Media Section of the New York Library Association hat einen eigenen Blog für ihre 2006er Konferenz. Ich dagegen erhielt vorgestern eine Mail, in der mir eine Bibliothekarin davon abrät, die Bibliothek einer gewissen Berliner Schule zu besuchen, da es dort quasi nur noch den Bach runtergehen würde. (Eine andere Schule hatte gleich abgesagt, da ihre Bibliothek schon so weit am Boden ist, dass sie quasi gar nicht mehr funktioniert.) Sie selber, die die Bibliothek seit Jahren betreute, ist im “Personalüberhang” des Berliner Senats und nur noch durch das Engagement der Schule auf ihrem Platz. Aber das wird in einigen Monaten vorbei sein. Danach, so hatte die betreffende Senatsverwaltung schon 2004 als Antwort auf einen Kleine Anfrage der CDU-Fraktion im Abgeordnetenhaus formuliert, sollen die Schulbibliotheken in den Oberstufenzentren nicht geschlossen, aber auch nicht von bibliothekarischem Personal betreut werden. Wie das gehen soll ist offen. Nur: unter solchen Umständen wird es wohl Schulbibliotheksblogs anderswo und nicht in Berlin geben. [...]
